An Editorial Wedding Photographer for the Modern Couple
Your dream wedding starts with your vision - the one moment you can clearly picture when you imagine the day playing out. Whether that is walking down the aisle, face slightly obscured by your veil, tenderly shielding the tears in your eyes, or that first kiss at the altar with your family and guests applauding and beaming with happiness for you both. These are treasured moments.
Identifying what your wedding style is will put you on the path to your dream wedding. From there, you must align with the right wedding vendors to bring that vision to life. Discover the “buzz” words that you relate to. Examples are traditional, classic, boho, contemporary, whimsical, glamorous, destination, romantic, rustic, and many more. Use these terms to search for inspiration, access bridal blogs, and connect with vendors on social media.
Below is an exposé on my photographic style - modern and editorial.
What exactly is editorial wedding photography?
Storytelling. Editorial photography is all about conveying a story. It is driven by emotion and energy, light, and the surrounding environment. It is capturing what is available to us in its purest form. Editorial photography does not hyper-stylize the imagery with tools and post-process, but rather allows for a flow of creativity and fine art during the making of the photo or covering of the moment. Each frame should tell its own story - “a picture is worth 1,000 words,” so to speak.
The modern aspect of this is a draw to contrast - light and shadow, angles and juxtapositions, cold and warm, night and day. It is a delicate blend of old and new romance and minimalism versus maximalism and knowing how to balance this recipe.
I call my own version of this Editorial Lifestyle; combining a documentary approach akin to journalism with the fine art flair of the editorial style. I seek out the expression and energy of unplanned moments while also thoughtfully providing guidance when needed and capturing the essence of the design and aesthetic. This allows for a beautiful blend of timeless heirlooms and honest memories you will cherish forever.

My couples and clients are radically intentional. In their lives, relationships, adventures, and no doubt, in their wedding planning and vision, intention and purpose are at the heart of it. They are fashion-forward but in an effortless way. They love to travel, collecting offbeat artwork and prized treasures from around the world. They appreciate design, character, and ambiance. They value the experience of their moments and their story, wishing to create an unforgettable celebration as much for themselves as it is for their family and friends. Whether they have 30 guests or 300, their event will intrinsically feel intimate, exclusive, and organic. It's unconventional but always intentional.
I have been a story-seeker all my life - a writer, a watcher, a drama queen, a reader. I wanted to be a journalist for National Geographic. I wanted to immerse myself in culture, language, history, kinship, and connection. Through all the ups and downs of life, I have found myself doing exactly that in a way that resonates deeply with my soul's purpose. I capture and tell stories that will last for generations. I tell your story - your love story, your family connection, your rituals, your traditions, your history.
I do this through a variety of mediums - digital and film cameras, some of which are very expensive and some you might give your nephew for his 6th birthday ie: toy cameras and instants. I photograph with a wide-angle lens for that documentary inclusion - as a way for you to totally immerse yourself in the story as though you were in the room. I also use a portrait lens to capture the magic - light-filled, sun flare portraits, and slow shutters to capture movement, blur, and emotion. Ultimately, what I have discovered is that it isn’t about what I photograph with, but rather how I photograph - with intention and connection at the heart.
MY INSPIRATIONS |
Historic neighborhoods and architecture with character, fingertips on skin, the light that falls through a window, shadows with movement, bicycles and where they’re parked, textures like linen, chiffon, satin, and velvet, backyard dinner parties, morning fog, and fireflies at twilight, peonies, and bougainvillea, the varying shades of coffee, Jane Eyre and coming-of-age storylines, afternoon sun rays on bare shoulders, and always, human connection.
